What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a fat cell diminishing treatment created to sculpt and mold the body by freezing fat without resorting to more invasive procedures. The technique employs the application of regulated cooling, also known as cryolipolysis, to freeze fat cells so they may be organically expelled from your body to create a tauter silhouette. At Phillip Dauwe, M.D. Plastic Surgery in Dallas, TX guided by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Phillip Dauwe, we offer advanced CoolSculpting to help you achieve your plastic surgery goals. Schedule an appointment for more information about CoolSculpting and find out if this treatment is the right one for you.

Am I a Candidate for CoolSculpting?

Even though this innovative technique has shown to be beneficial for men and women of different age groups, those who will benefit the most from CoolSculpting:

  • Are at or near their ideal weight
  • Struggle with difficult areas of fat that don't respond to exercise and diet efforts
  • Don't want or are not good candidates for more invasive procedures
  • Understand realistic goals for the results of their procedure

How is CoolSculpting Performed?

Following your initial appointment with Dr. Dauwe, your first procedure will be planned. During your treatment, the CoolSculpting applicator and gel pad is used on the designated area. The cooling technology, delivered by the applicator, will cause ice crystals to form inside the fat cells. You will likely experience a cold sensation at the time of your procedure, but this does not typically create pain. Since the CoolSculpting applicator uses suction to bring the tissue into the applicator, you will experience a small amount of pulling, but this does not hurt.

How Long is Recovery from CoolSculpting?

Since CoolSculpting is noninvasive, you can expect to return to your normal activities following your procedure. Most of the time, patients can return to school or work immediately after their treatment. Symptoms of the treatment can include swelling, bruising, stinging, redness, and discomfort of the treated site. These symptoms are short-lived and usually fade in the days after your treatment. The skin overlying the treated area will have some numbness for up to 2-3 months. Expect to notice results within three weeks, while you will see the most obvious and dramatic results 3 months following your CoolSculpting procedure.

CoolSculpting FAQ

How much does CoolSculpting cost?
The expense of CoolSculpting varies based upon the number of sessions recommended and the quantity of fat that you wish to have removed. At your consultation, we will discuss your cosmetic goals to determine the most appropriate course of action to achieve those results. We'll also speak with you regarding any out of pocket expenses.

How does CoolSculpting work?
CoolSculpting applies cold temperature to your skin and fat to destroy fat cells in the treated body parts. The cold energy creates an irreversible and permanent injury to the fat cells causing them to die. The cells are subsequently broken up and metabolized by your body.

Is CoolSculpting safe?
Yes! CoolSculpting is completely safe and has FDA clearance for fat reduction. CoolSculpting is a minimally invasive, topical procedure where the apparatus is applied to your skin’s surface. With this procedure, there's no need for a healing period. You might notice some minor swelling and discoloration immediately following the session, but that usually subsides in around one week.

How many CoolSculpting sessions will I need?
The number of sessions necessary to attain your desired outcome will be determined during your consultation. For many patients, just one treatment is sufficient while others might require more therapy sessions depending on the quantity of fat being addressed. The number of sessions depends on your aesthetic objectives and if you have larger layers of fat in target sections.

Can the fat cells grow back after CoolSculpting?
No! The fat cells are permanently and irreversibly damaged and do NOT come back. Obviously, results are enhanced by eating a clean diet and leading a healthy lifestyle, but the treated fat will be forever changed by this treatment.
